Haweswater, Penrith, Cumbria (GR NY516182) Excellent scenic route - in the eastern heart of the Lake District - from North take jct 40 off M6 (Penrith), take A66 east to next roundabout then A6 south for half mile. Then turn right following Pooley Bridge and Ullswater, then follow Askham, Helton and Bampton signs. From south, take jct 39 at Shap - go north on A6 through Shap village then fork left following Haweswater and Bampton. Road is narrow and slow!
