Ballantrae - New Luce 15 mile
and Two Fat Ladies 88km Race
Sunday, 21st May 2000
From the race organiser:-
Despite a disappointingly small turnout for the third running of the 15 mile community event, near perfect weather conditions meant that those who had entered had good passage over the hill. All, that is, except Stranraer's Stuart McNeil who crashed out of the race in spectacular fashion at 40mph, his flight down from the top of Beneraird coming to an abrupt halt as he parted company with his bike, ending up with a broken collar bone.
The course between Ballantrae and New Luce was also the final leg of the New Luce Tw Fat ladies, an 88km run or bike which starts and finishes in New Luce. Bill Yate, who was the only competitor last year, returned to complete the course with his son, who now holds the course record. Ross McCreadie, whose brother Shaun led the field in the 15 mile bike race, came second.
